Welcome Brownsville Bears to the 2019-2020 school year! Yes, this letter is a month behind, am I the only one who can't believe its October already?
The PTSA executive board has been hard at work since the end of last school year. We met throughout the summer as well as exchanged many text messages and email communications too. We are very excited about the changes to our PTSA, one of them being the active website which you are reading this from. The WA state PTSA changed the platform for our membership site and then added in many awesome features so families can have a one stop shop, joining PTSA, filling out a volunteer interest form, checking out our events calendar, purchasing tickets for events and so much more.
We also want to make our PTSA transparent and all inclusive, it isn't a secret society group, but one for every family at our school. This is my last year as the President and my goal is to break those stereotypes of PTAs. Most of the board is made of full time working moms with multiple children who live busy lives. I truly believe there is a place for every parent to be involved in our school; from dropping off one food item for our staff appreciation week, to becoming an art docent and working directly in a classroom, the possibilities are endless. In trying to achieve my goal, I will have our monthly meeting agenda and minutes posted on the website, because lets face it, sometimes attending a meeting just doesn't fit your schedule, and that's OK, you should still be able to be in the know.
We run a budget of about $50,000 per year, and that is only possible because of the amazing families at our school. We are able to support the staff and give the students great opportunities because of all the hard work parent volunteers put in at our school, and we are very appreciative. You can read about some of the ways we do this here.
We have some very fun family events coming up, like Kids Craft Day, Book Fair and our new and improved BINGO night (I promise you don't want to miss that).
I look forward to meeting you all, even if it's in passing - just say hello! I have an amazing executive board and our goals are aligned in wanting to make communication easy for all families at our school, this only benefits the learning experience for all students at Brownsville Elementary.
We hope you are enjoying your start to the new school year!
Kids craft day was a huge success! Thanks to Hollie and all the members of the Craft Day Committee. We appreciated all the parents that took time to help kids on Thursday and Friday.
